I am the Programme Lead for Working on Wellbeing, an employment support service for disabled people living in Wales. We support disabled people to find work, voluntary work, training and education opportunities and build their confidence. I lead a team of three advisers.

Navigate is a national mentoring service that provides emotional support for parents of disabled children. As a Parent Adviser I actively listen to parents concerns, exploring needs and personal goals. I also collaborate with then to agree a six-week action plan, and provide support, if needed, to achieve targets on the plan.* To successfully achieve this I have developed excellent communication skills both verbal and written.* I show empathy and being able to respond positively to change be able to deal effectively with conflicting priorities.* I understand the importance of flexibility in a job role to meet the needs of the client and work effectively as a team and with other departments in the organisation.* I have an outstanding working knowledge of IT including Microsoft Office Products and am confident using of digital technology demonstrating a positive approach to the adoption of innovative products and tools.

• Support families to make informed decisions about school and other educational placements and provision from health, education, social services and other agencies. • Working closely with SEN Code of Practice having a good knowledge of educational and additional learning needs legislation.• Support families work in partnership, supporting to build and maintain good working relationships with relevant professionals.• Supporting families and advocating for children and young people at meetings with schools and the Local Authority and also at Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings. Ensuring that the Voice of the Child is heard by professionals involved.• Work with schools and the local authority in continuing to develop good working practice with parents/carers.• Coordinating a team of five volunteers in the office setting, providing them with learning pathways and targets to work towards and reviewing their progress. I also manage the volunteer rota, organise appreciation events and times for them to network with staff and other volunteers and other administrative needs. • Families play an active and valued role in their child’s education and development – and I support by giving families their choices. • Provide both informal and formal Disagreement Resolution to support with communication breakdowns between families and schools/LA.• I provide key working support to vulnerable families who need more practical help in dealing with letters, transport to meetings filling in forms, and understanding professional reports.• As well as providing accurate and impartial educational advice I also signpost families to other organisations so they have more holistic support.• Actively participating in report writing for both Families First projects and County Service Reports, using Microsoft Excel and CrossData to capture and record relevant information.

During this role I completed the following tasks to a high standard:• Effectively taught children the National Curriculum across 11 subject areas using different resources and skills, ensuring work was differentiated and that all children under my supervision could access their education.• Supervised all children in my care, ensuring their safety and well-being. • Successfully Implemented behavior management strategies to ensure all children were focused on the tasks set and could appropriately access their education.• Monitoring the progress of children in classes I had long term placements in. • Using teaching materials provided by the school and also using resources provided by myself.• Made sure all work was marked to a high standard at the end of the day using the correct marking schemes and reporting back to the class teacher of any progress made by the children and any incidents dealt with from the previous day.
