Working within the Research Analytics, Policy and Impact Team within the Office for Research, Griffith University on all things research impact.

Through STEM Avenue I provide services and advice to organisations towards the coordination and delivery of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) engagement projects and events aimed at diverse audiences. These services include strategic management and planning, event/project management, stakeholder engagement, evaluation, training, activity/resource creation, grant writing and reporting.

In this role I worked with the GRIDD executive team to:- Identify strategies and priorities for assisting GRIDD researchers in recognising and communicating their research impact and embedding impact practices across GRIDD’s operations- Provide training workshops on, for example, identifying, proving and reporting on impact- Build resources and templates that assist GRIDD researchers in identifying and communicating their impact (e.g. research pipeline example for impact planning… Show more In this role I worked with the GRIDD executive team to:- Identify strategies and priorities for assisting GRIDD researchers in recognising and communicating their research impact and embedding impact practices across GRIDD’s operations- Provide training workshops on, for example, identifying, proving and reporting on impact- Build resources and templates that assist GRIDD researchers in identifying and communicating their impact (e.g. research pipeline example for impact planning, LinkedIn/Griffith Experts template that emphasises impact) - Interview GRIDD research leaders and write Impact Stories on their work for different platforms- Targeted assistance towards specific research grant applications to assist in identifying and reporting on impactTwo example strategies I have implemented through GRIDD are:- Development and delivery of impact identification workshops for HDR students that facilitated them including an impact slide in their presentations at the 2022 and 2023 GRIDD annual student symposiums.- I have written 18 Impact Stories on GRIDD research leaders that will be launched on the GRIDD website on June 22, 2023. This project has involved coordinating with the Griffith marketing and web development teams to design a purpose-built story carousel for the GRIDD main page and individual story pages with ‘call to action’ boxes to encourage donations and partnerships. I also worked with the Sustainability Development Goals team to identify the relevant United Nations Sustainability Development Goals that aligned with each story. NISEP (www.nisep.org.au) uses STEM as a tool to place Indigenous secondary students in leadership roles where they demonstrate activities at school, community and university-based events to diverse audiences. This allows the students to gain the confidence, motivation and aspiration to finish school and pursue pathways to tertiary education and employment.
