I am a current mechanical engineering student at Purdue University, studying with the intention of learning skills that I can apply to all aspects of my future career. Growing up, math and science always infatuated me. I love being presented with problems that have tangible solutions, and I especially love learning and applying new methods and strategies to solve these problems. I also have always had a deep sense of creativity, and the outlets through which I expressed that creativity often included art, dance, and music. I was first introduced to engineering as a sophomore in high school. I took my first class about the design process and I immediately knew that a career in engineering was the perfect fit for me. The freedom to channel both my creativity and the skills I had learned in my STEM classes to design and bring solutions to life is something that I find very powerful. I hope to make a difference in the world by utilizing my skill sets in the engineering field to create solutions to real problems that will help improve the lives of others.Up to this point, I have taken numerous engineering, math, and science classes and had the opportunity to participate in various projects and competitions surrounding these subjects. Throughout high school, I was a part of three large engineering projects during my Junior and Senior years which required me and my team to work together to complete the design process and create valid solutions to the problems we wanted to solve. Our efforts for our final project ultimately led us to win our state competition. In my time at Purdue, I have continued to dedicate myself to learning new knowledge, techniques, and engaging in unique opportunities to develop my skill set further. Up to this point, I have worked in teams to deliver two capstone projects, and gained experience in the manufacturing industry. Moving forward, I hope to continue to develop the skills I already have, and learn new skill sets to strengthen my ability to create better solutions. These next few years will be full of learning new things, experiencing more about the world and my role in it, and developing my skills to overcome challenges. However, the end of my schooling will not be the end of my growth. I hope to use every experience to take away new skills that will continue to strengthen my ability to help others by solving problems.
