First career: chef (skills translate very well to laboratory environment!), with an interest in nutrition, dietetics and the provision of medically-adjusted diets for hospital patients.Subsequently educated/trained as a biochemist, with a PhD in an aspect of biochemical engineering.Post-doctoral employment was in the area of DNA damage and repair, supervised by Professor Christopher Parris.Employed as an Education Academic in the Division of Biosciences at Brunel University London; pedagogical research areas are in design/provision of lab-based practical skills teaching for biomedical students. Also interested in the teaching of good academic practice to students and detection of student academic misconduct. Maintain an active interest in the research area of DNA damage and repair: several UG and PGT students supervised in lab projects within this area each academic year.
