I worked across the directorate to develop strategic and operational policy responses for housing related service delivery through the statewide roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).The Department of Communities was formed on 1 July 2017 through the amalgamation of the Housing Authority, the Department for Child Protection and Family Support, the Disability Services Commission, the Regional Services Reform units, the 'Communities' function from the Department of Local Government and Communities and Youth Justice.

I had a fantastic experience on a 6 week secondment in Kununurra through the Jawun program. I worked with a local Aboriginal Corporation, at their request, to evaluate a program focused on increasing educational engagement of primary school aged children and their families. This was a challenging and rewarding experience as I had the privilege of working with strong Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal leaders on indigenous empowerment issues. The Empowered Communities model being rolled out in the East Kimberley presents an opportunity for Aboriginal led organisations to collaborate on aspirational community goals.

Three month secondment to the Policy and Strategy team spanning the change of government in Western Australia. Among other projects, I wrote a submission on behalf of the regional development portfolio to a Productivity Commission study.

10 month secondment to the Strategic Policy and Evaluation team. I worked closely with the Disability Services Commission and the Department of the Premier and Cabinet to establish the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Western Australia.

Strategic engagement with the not-for-profit sector Developing policy to improve the delivery of community housing

I managed relationships, proposals and cabinet submissions for the Royalties for Regions (RFR) Housing for Workers program.

In this policy officer role I provided strategic labour relations policy advice and analysis to the Minister through preparation of cabinet and other submissions, memoranda, economic and statistical reports, departmental publications, briefing notes and background papers.

Provided advice and analysis to the Executive, Board and Minister on the development, implementation and review of policies and programs relevant to people with disability. I provided research and policy analysis to Federal-State committees. I established and implemented a program to provide young people from regional and metro areas with the opportunity to participate on Leeuwin training ship voyages.
