As an area manager intern for Amazon, I spent 10 weeks watching, listening and learning the Amazon way to run an operation. I engaged a plethora of associates--in both English and Spanish, participated in process paths, and adjusted to the life of a 40-hour, 4 day workweek. Knowing Spanish allowed me to communicate with associates on a deeper level, while also gaining their trust. I also was given the opportunity to take on a project where I collected data for 5 weeks in order to analyze the data and make a decision based on cost savings and the benefits for the company. Because the project was a product deployment, I also gained experience in how to purchase products, inventory, and set up deployment. This information was compiled into a 10-page narrative and an hour long presentation. This internship gave me the opportunity to master Excel, learn proper time management, and when to step out of my comfort zone.
