As part of my role, I carry out various editorial and administrative tasks, ensuring smooth operations and high-quality content. I review manuscripts, create original content, conduct proofreading, and contribute to editorial decisions.A significant aspect of my job is managing rights and permissions. I handle media permissions, coordinate publication details, and negotiate and sell translation rights worldwide. Additionally, I manage author contracts and ensure fair compensation through calculating and managing annual author royalty reports.My role combines writing, editorial expertise, and administrative skills, with a focus on promoting our publishing house and supporting authors.Specific duties include: • Review manuscript submissions and contribute to editorial discussions regarding publicationdecisions.• Create a wide array of original content, including for bookstore and publishing-house newsletters, copy for the City Lights website and blog, events flyers, internal memos, and press releases to media outlets.• Conduct proofreading, fact checking, and "sensitivity readings" to ensure the quality of book projects.• Often take the first pass in shaping structure of various book projects (fiction and nonfiction), as well as editing at the line level for style and clarity. Discover and research potential authors for manuscript reviews.• Manage media permissions, including archival photo materials, artworks, etc. Coordinate CIP data, ISBNs, and barcodes for publications.• Assist with developing overall publicity strategies for titles, including pitching to publications for reviews.• Oversee the granting of subsidiary rights and permissions, as well as selling translation rightsworldwide. Create and manage author contracts.• Digitize old files, archival materials, and author databases.• Work closely with the Marketing team to track sales and inventory of books both here and abroad.• Calculate and manage annual author royalty reports.
