About Emma Hearns

I am a highly motivated senior at George Washington University, pursuing a B.A. in Psychological and Brain Sciences through the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, and a Marketing minor through GW School of Business. I grew up on Long Island, New York, and I am unsure of where I will be living post-grad, but I would love a chance to stay in DC longer! If not, I will be returning to New York. Through both my studies and various professional experiences, I have been able to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge that I can apply to both my personal and professional life. I possess excellent communication skills (I could probably talk to a wall), I’m quick on my feet, thrive in multitasking environments and excel in managing multiple projects at once. I’m a quick learner, and I’m always asking questions as I love to learn new things. I have had multiple internship, startups, student organizations and project management experience pertaining to marketing, public relations, engagement and communications. While open to exploring diverse career paths, my current interests lie in pursuing a career in luxury marketing; specifically the public relations/brand communications side. I also am extremely interested in brand management, and brand strategy. Both of those fields combine my interest and expertise in psychology with marketing. Outside of work, I enjoy going on walks, drinking coffee (I’m a barista while I’m at school so I’ve become a bit of a coffee snob) and hanging out with my orange cat Clementine! My slightly embarrassing hobby is learning new vocabulary words, and my guilty pleasure is reality TV. I am eager to continue to gain practical experience through internships and research projects, with the goal of expanding my knowledge and skills before graduating in May 2025. Please feel free to send me a message, I am always eager to grow my network!!

  • Storage Scholars Llc
    Marketing Communications Intern
Storage Scholars Llc Feb 2023 - May 2023
Washington, District Of Columbia, United States
As a marketing communications intern at Storage Scholars LLC, a moving and storage startup specializing in college moving, I planned and executed a campus move-out during Storage Scholar’s first year at George Washington University. Working closely with only one other dedicated co-founder, we successfully surpassed expectations by securing over 250 sign-ups; a notable accomplishment for a first-year operation. Navigating the challenges of establishing Storage Scholars at GWU for the first time, I gained invaluable experience in many fields; such as marketing, operations management, team-building, product and resource management and recruiting. We learned to adapt and evolve, embracing a dynamic and fast-paced environment by proving we were ready for anything. This hands-on experience provided me with a deep understanding of the intricacies of operations management and the importance of effective teamwork. The operation we planned and executed went extremely smoothly, and I will be returning as a campus intern in the fall to execute move-in.The opportunity to contribute to a growing enterprise taught me invaluable lessons and I further developed my abilities to think critically, remain agile, and leverage my strengths to drive meaningful outcomes. In addition, learning how to run a business directly from the CEO who created his company as a college freshman was invaluable.

I was the main line of communication with customers and through experience I furthered my skills in customer relations and communication. I also further developed my recruitment skills, as I met with multiple customers to recruit them to use GreekHouse as opposed to any apparel companies they were using in the past. In addition, I created and used social media pages and assets to engage with potential customers on a local basis while promoting GreekHouse. I furthered my understanding in Social Media marketing and customer interaction through this experience.

Through various marketing strategies, I collaborated with my team of three to strategize techniques to increase engagement/excitement while preparing for launch day. This resulted in over 1000 downloads from GWU students following launch day, which is a landmark accomplishment compared to launch day at previous schools. Planning and executing a launch for a brand new app was an amazing but challenging experience which allowed me to emphasize the importance of flexibility, collaboration and being ready for just about anything.
