About Emma Beasley
I am a graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Writing Concentration and a Minor in Dance.My career has focused on education over the past seven years. I have worked as a writing consultant for several institutions in the Houston area, including Alvin Community College, the University of Houston – Clear Lake, the University of St. Thomas, and San Jacinto Community College – South Campus. My years in tutoring have given me experience working one-on-one or in groups. Additionally, I have supported individuals with disabilities and unique learning needs, TSI and TSIA test preparation, and I have had opportunities to collaborate with other staff to streamline policies and procedures, workshops, and events. For two years, I worked closely with professors within the UHCL community as a course-embedded consultant. For this role, I am responsible for contacting students through email to check in and answer questions, independently leading peer review sessions, and coordinating with the course professor to communicate information to and from students.Recently, I accepted a freelance editing position with Omdia, a branch of the technology market analysis company, Informa. Copies of upcoming articles and presentations are sent to me for consistency, clarity, and correctness. I review and edit each file according to the Omdia guidelines and return it within the requested deadline.I have also worked for the last five years as a dance instructor for Harbour Dance School, and recently, Bay Area Dance Moves. As an instructor, I plan and implement lessons and choreography tailored to my students’ needs in a healthy and engaging classroom environment containing a variety of skill levels and styles of learning. In addition to group and individual choreography, I am responsible for selecting and editing appropriate music, organizing venue set-up, and overseeing students’ readiness for recital events. Furthermore, I coordinate with the studio director frequently to establish learning goals and plan for upcoming events, classes, and seasonal schedules.My academic experience has required me to analyze and respond to various texts quickly and clearly. In contrast, my writing courses have taught me to create content in several different genres and provide useful feedback to others. My minor in dance has equipped me to be well-versed in choreography and pedagogy for teaching various dance styles. Thus, I can collaboratively and independently plan lessons for instruction based on the needs of my students.
