I have completed the Dyslexia Institute of Minnesota Reading Center’s Basic Orton-Gillingham training to become certified to tutor dyslexic students. During this course, I learned the different methods to optimize teaching these students. Being dyslexic myself, I have sympathy for the struggles of neurodivergent students. I hope to help them become as successful academically, as I have been, and to find the strengths provided to them by their learning differences. My work experience includes high school math teaching and math tutoring. Specifically, I was involved with implementing new math-related interventions for the current 9th-grade class and teaching intermediate algebra. I have classroom management, instructional methods, and curriculum development skills. Additionally, I am very familiar with state standards for math and various assessment instruments used to measure student progress. Over the summer of 2021, I worked at The Ross Mathematics Program. I was a counselor within the program, and I had a group of six students I would meet with daily. I graded their problem sets and helped them learn the challenging materials using inquiry-based learning. I loved seeing their faces light up when they would grasp a complicated concept.
