As an intern under Group Sustainability at Keppel, I collaborated with senior team members to conduct comprehensive environmental audits of the company’s sustainability practices in line with its transition towards a financial institution. I became familiarized with ESG ratings such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and Sustainalytics, alongside standards such as the ISSB S1 and S2. This involved analysing data and staying abreast of industry best practices as I reviewed sustainability disclosures made by Keppel, its subsidiaries, and other peer companies. Specifically, I learned how to account for a company's Scope 3 carbon emissions in its sustainability report. During the internal Materiality Review, I observed how board members proposed actionable strategies to align the company with global sustainability standards and reflected their intentions in the company's material factors. I was also granted creative freedom when I spearheaded the company's venture into using Midjourney, a generative artificial intelligence program, meant to facilitate the company's larger transition into using AI technology. I later gave a brief presentation on the program's features. I further honed my collaborative and interpersonal skills when the department volunteered at Willing Hearts to deliver meal packs to families in need. Finally, through a monthly bulletin entitled 'Walking the Talk', I was able to raise awareness among colleagues about the importance of sustainable practices and environmental consciousness outside of the workplace. Some themes I worked on included ‘Plastic-Free July’ and ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’.
