My role also involves site management of MPAs across South West Wales, involving linking up with local partners and prioritising actions and projects for site maintenance and improvement from a marine perspective. Additionally I take part in surveys and marine monitoring activities with Natural Resources Wales. I attend a variety of internal and external marine groups and boards, such as SAC Relevant Authority Groups. I also provide advice and support to marine projects taking place within my area. My responsibilities primarily include teaching residential and day visit field courses to schools from foundation phase level up to university level, with focus on environmental studies around geography and biology. I keep Biology course resources up to date with current specifications (mostly A-Level, but GCSE also) and develop, review and improve courses accordingly. This involves all aspects of the course, such as teaching skills in identification and taxonomy, developing identification keys, creating engaging learning activities to learn course content, improving on resources for teaching statistical testing, adapting field work teaching methods and techniques and always looking to find more inspiring stories and activities to bring in to courses to keep studies curious and engaged, discovering and becoming inspired whilst also meeting the demands of their qualification. I am also part of a small team developing Key Stage 2 courses, and adapting out current programmes to become more in line with the new Welsh Successful Futures curriculum for primary schools. I help to develop new sessions and improve on sessions already in place by creating new resources and incorporating different techniques and activities.
