Providing tailored risk mitigation programs for subsea infrastructure assets.

Examined plankton samples from the Phoenix Islands Protected Area (PIPA), identifying 10,854 larval fishes to taxonomic family level, to compile a complete, multi-year larval ichthyoplankton assemblage over an entire ENSO cycle to determine effects of El Niño.Collaborated with researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) to learn the science of larval fish identification; led development of larval fish identification practices with the Rotjan Lab and served as mentor to fellow undergraduates pursuing these skills.Assembled a detailed photo reference library (600+ images) for use in facilitating identification of future samples. Analyzed trends in planktonic distribution and local marine biodiversity within PIPA.Resulted in an Honors in Biology Thesis, to be submitted for publication and received the award for “Outstanding Undergraduate Research in Biology,” April 2019.

Work with professors and graduate students in Coastal Ecology and Sedimentology labs to analyze erosion patterns in New England salt marshes. Collect and analyze sediment samples for biomass and organic content to determine areas at the highest risk for slumping and sediment loss. Perform eelgrass transplants to monitor and maintain healthy coastal ecosystems.
