I am responsible for leading the Wellcome Trust Infectious Disease team’s vector biology and vector control portfolio. • Developed a proposed vector-borne disease (VBD) strategy for the Infectious Disease team. Presented the strategy and achieved buy in from the senior and executive leadership teams to make VBDs a priority area for Wellcome. • Secured investment of £17m for 5 VBD projects. Co-developed research projects with multinational teams and received funding approval from senior management. • Provide strategic management and oversight of a portfolio of vector biology and vector control research projects, with a combined value of over £29m. Develop project specific reporting and schedule regular project team meetings to review project progress. • Developed a key network within the vector biology and vector control community, including scientists, developers, regulators, governing bodies and funders.• Represented Wellcome at relevant conferences including GRC Genetic Biocontrol, Gene Convene & PAMCA. Presented on Wellcome funding strategy at the Mosquito Kolymbari Meeting 2022 and sat on a panel at Forecasting Health Futures (Abu Dhabi) to discuss the implementation challenges of modified mosquitoes and to champion their impact. • Created a cross-Wellcome working group on affordable products to facilitate discussions on product development. Sat on the secretariat for the working group to coordinate and chair weekly meetings. • Collaboratively managed a consultancy contract with IAI to develop a regional landscape and opportunities analysis on Latin America and the Caribbean. • Mentored new colleagues through the project decision process, project initiation and management.

Successfully led a Substance Misuse Health Needs Assessment for Medway, funded by Public Health England to support the recommisoning of services in Medway. o Developed a feasibility protocol and fieldwork strategy to understand how infectious diseases and One Health factors affect children under-5 in peri-urban slums and how a technology-based, human centred solution could be implemented to measure and prevent infections within a slum environment. o Led a 5-week field trip to Tarlabasi slum, Istanbul, to operationalise the feasibility protocol; trained and mentored NGO staff in Tarlabasi, conducted interviews, focus groups and delivered workshops with parents and caregivers in the community, conducted stakeholder interviews, ran activities with the children to understand their lived experience, mapped the social structure of the community. Delivered daily presentations to CHIP stakeholders. o Developed data structure and governance for study data using Microsoft Azure and SQL server. • Worked independently on the ADVANCE HIV clinical trial, programmed analyses to interpret data on demographics, safety and efficacy in STATA using large complex datasets. • Ran quality control checks on analyses produced by other programmers. • Conducted background research to support the results of the analyses, for example, to inform the South African government on the best combination of PrEP treatments to fund. • Wrote reports to be delivered to the WHO, US FDA and clinicians, giving context to the results of the analysis through conducting literature searches, for example, the attributable risk of cancer and poor pregnancy outcomes from obesity caused by treatment induced weight gain. • Engaged with expert clinicians to discuss the implications of the results and where best to direct the research moving forwards.

I was a course tutor for Parasitic Worms: Life Stories, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) run by the University of Manchester. The aim of the course is to raise awareness of this aspect of Neglected Tropical Diseases through educating the general public.

Over summer I gained a position as an intern in the Travel, Tourism and Leisure (TTL) department. Throughout my internship at BDRC I mostly worked with quantitative data, this involved checking questionnaires, inputting data, checking data, transforming data into graphs and creating presentations. I also worked with qualitative data - transcribing and analysing. Some of the projects I worked on include the Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court, Sir John Soane’s Museum and The British Library. I conducted extensive research, data extraction and analysis for a £1 million project looking at the impact of the Cross-rail on the Barbican, utilising both quantitative and qualitative data. I created project proposals, client presentations and aided in informing funding allocations for the Heritage Lottery Fund.
