I currently manage UKRI’s integrated governance, risk and assurance framework which collates all of our legal and regulatory areas of compliance, combined with best practice and good governance areas that we have committed to meeting. It links those areas with the controls that the organisation is using and gives us oversight of any strength of weaknesses. Over the last couple of years I have a taken this from a spreadsheet and built it into a risk system which gives us real time information and the self assessment ability to provide assurance to our stakeholders. I have a strong passion for risk and controls, finding new and innovative ways to engage with the business and help them utilise this as a tool, and less of a tick boxing exercise.I have also recently been helping as a risk business partner for the organisation, which has been a great experience. Taking the passion that I have in this area and helping others to apply it in their roles, helping to identify and assess their risks, challenging where appropriate and helping them report to their boards with targeted outputs of their risk registers. I have extensive experience in training, nothing feels better than taking a subject that people don’t understand and applying it to their world and way of thinking so that you can physically see the light turn on as they grasp how this is going to improve their way of working.
