I see legal rules as the structures that we work within, while otherwise being free to be ourselves. Like a 🌻 wildflower meadow 🌼 where there are constraints in terms of light, air, water, and soil available, and within those constraints there’s a wonderful variety of plants, flowers and wildlife, all thriving in their own individual ways. That’s how our organisation should be. Thriving in our own individual ways. 🌱 I help them do this within the employment law rules – to be distinctively themselves and bring their purpose and values alive throughout the employment relationship. Our legal systems are traditionally adversarial, and we’ll try to find a way through that’s more human, collaborative and effective.Bringing clarity to the issues, a focus on purpose, and the opportunity to engage the organisation’s values. We’ll look to find resolution based on human relationships, new approaches and minimising ‘blame’. Once ‘accusations’ are made and traditional procedures engaged, it can be so difficult to rebuild the team.Good relationships in the workplace have huge benefits for the organisation and wider community. They also minimise legal risk - not least as it’s human beings that bring claims, the law is just a hook to hang them on!I’m often inspired by nature and will look to design my advice for a good user experience – you, your people, and anyone else impacted by it.I have over 30 years experience as an employment lawyer, initially in London and then within the south-west. In 2014 I co-founded our law firm, Ramsay Paterson, with Stephanie Paterson – to work solely with purpose and values driven organisations.
