About Emma Stuart
I am a Marine Biology and Oceanography graduate from the University of Plymouth with a general interest in marine primary productivity, global ocean process and distribution patterns. In my final year I worked as a research and laboratory assistant in Greenland/UK where we collected Arctic calcifying algae to study paleo climates. Along side this my final thesis looked at the modern distribution patterns of foraminifera and HBI concentrations in the fjord system in Greenland, so to provide a baseline for proxy based paleo-reconstructions. I have experience in: Taxonomy, Scanning electron microscopy, RStudio and open column chromatography. I have been lucky enough to have worked in temperate, tropical, and polar waters. On top of this I am a qualified commercial diver and work as a chamber attendant at DDRC

Thesis Work
Title: Modern distribution patterns of foraminifera and HBI concentrations in Godthåbsfjord, Greenland: A baseline for proxy based paleo reconstructions Aim: to understand how modern distribution patterns of benthic foraminifera are linked to paleo-climates. Outcome: This worked showed that distributions and community structures of benthic foraminifera are strongly coupled with pelagic primary productivity along with climate driven shifts in oceanic regimes. • Sediment and foraminifera analysis• HBI/ IP25 sea ice biomarker analysis• SEM

• Supported post-doctorate research into archiving potential of coraline algae in glacial fjord • Tended and monitored dive operations• General deck hand• Vessel navigation• CTD measurements and Van Veen grab sampling for sediment analysis.• PAM analysis• Aquatic husbandry
