As an integral part of the Vitamin D Animal Laboratory (VitDAL), I develop, manage and perform DEQAS accredited liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis for the assessment of multiple vitamin D metabolites in a range of species to answer research and clinical questions. -
Phd In Comparative OncologyThe University Of Edinburgh Sep 2013 - Jun 2017My PhD research sought to further develop the understanding of the role that cancer stem cells play within the tumour environment and how this cell population may be targeted therapeutically. With a specific interest in the role that COX-2 plays in cancer stem cell function, my project utilised COX-2 inhibitors and small interfering RNA to investigate the role of COX-2 in a panel of canine and human cancer cell lines and isolated cancer stem cell populations. The similarities between canine and human cancers are biologically relevant and expose potential for utilising naturally occurring tumours in dogs as models for the human disease.
