I am currently taking the Creative Copywriting Academy course and after just a month, already have a few pieces to add to my portfolio. I have done Facebook ads for AI-BO, blog posts for Litehouse, Campaigns for ZevDevCo and of course I continue to write for Billo.

In my final year of majoring in law and English at Stellenbosch University, I approached a potential partner and together we turned my idea of neoprene beach pillows into a reality. I put my digital marketing skills into practice as Head of Marketing and wrote all copy for the business new business venture. I took charge of campaigns, social media and all website copy. I used my knowledge of SEO to boost our ranking on SERPS. Through my copy, a gave the brand a personality and learnt a lot about what styles work and which don't.

As the second grade teacher at Star of the Sea (an inclusive school with children from all backgrounds,) I faced challenges daily, however the job was incredibly rewarding. I learnt how to teach children with learning difficulties who could not afford remedial schools. I learnt how to differentiate work to meet the needs of a diverse classroom. I learnt how to navigate demanding parents, keeping them happy while setting personal boundaries. I learnt to write report comments that speak to the individual. I learnt to manage a diverse classroom, to stay calm in chaotic circumstances and to win every child over with a gentle and understanding manner. I learnt resilience and to speak out against injustices that I witnessed in the school. I learnt to work in a team and to help colleagues in every opportunity. I learnt to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances demanded by the covid-19 pandemic. I learnt to take critism, to learn from it and to grow from it. I learnt to work incredibly hard for the sake of my learners, my colleagues and the school.

Whilst teaching full time, the Headmistress approached me to au-pair and tutor her child after school. After doing a short-course in remedial teaching, I was able to put these skills into practice. I learnt patience and the importance of excellent communication.

I started the year doing a learnership at one of Cape Towns' top private schools. Half way through the year, I was given the opportunity to adjust my role to full-time class teacher as the grade was divided due to covid-19 restrictions. As a 23 year old, I took on the challenge with very little experience. I learnt to work in a team, share ideas and manage clients (parents,) remain calm and some serious time-management skills.

Zizi is a fashion consultant to many women around Cape Town. As her assistant, I assist in dropping and collecting orders from CMTs, taking care of clients if she isn't there, packing away and steaming clothes etc. The job has educated me most in the way Zizi runs her business and in learning how to deal with clients professionally.
