Customer Quality Engineer Ii
Graduate Student
In addition to coursework, I am on a cardiovascular medical device team. We are in the process of developing a medical training device based on a need that I observed while in the operating room. I have completed disease state fundamentals research, technical landscapes, market analyses, stakeholder analyses, reimbursement landscapes, intellectual property landscapes, and regulatory landscapes to help our team select the best clinical need to create a medical device. My project is centered around a device for endoscopic vein harvesting or EVH. We are currently developing a training device for operating room nurses to increase their EVH skills and confidence level by providing an anatomically correct, reusable, and accessible model. This will translate to less harm to the vein and therefore better patient outcomes from endoscopic vein harvesting.
Student Project Manager
I led a team of six students towards the successful design and implementation of hardware, software, and training materials for a system to 3D print prosthetic and orthotic devices in Kijabe, Kenya. I was a member of an interdisciplinary research team for all 4 years of college and was project manager for the last 2.5 years. Being project manager included leading weekly project planning meetings with goal setting and creating vision documents and timelines for all project components to keep team members on track. From this, I learned strong oral and written communication skills with engineering professionals in the field and customer clients. I even helped in acquiring donations valued at $10,000 for our client at a Kenyan hospitalI also traveled to our client in Kenya 3 different times to help train the hospital technicians on how to use our 3D printing system to create custom prosthetics and orthotics for patients.
Summer Intern
I developed a test method to capture intraluminal video of calcified vessels in cadaver specimens. I also manufactured an aorta model with calcifications using an O-arm scanner, Mimics Software, MeshMixer Software, slicing software, and a Stratasys J750 3D printer to capture intraluminal video and compare it to the cadaver specimen for marketing. I learned about doctor-patient relations, how to accomplish tasks independently given a condensed time frame, and time management skills in the workplace. In addition to my project, I optimized the company’s process in making 3D printed blood vessels to prevent leaks in models with large calcifications for future Jacobs Institute 3D models.
Intern
I shadowed doctors, physician’s assistants, physical therapists, and MRI and Radiologic Technicians. This helped me learn about patient relations, how to accomplish tasks independently given a time frame, and time management skills in the workplace.
Intern
I assisted graduate students with multiple fuel cell experiments in the fuel cell laboratory. I also designed and installed Swaglock tubing from a mass spectrometer to a fuel cell while creating goals and timelines for independent work.
