Research Intern @ Lichtman LabHarvard University Jun 2019 - Jun 2022Cambridge, Massachusetts, Us• mEMbrain - Under the mentorship of Dr. Yaron Meirovitch, I am working on a platform called mEMbrain, an intuitive tool which provides out-of-the-box machine learning pipelines for connectomics that neuroscientists can use without background knowledge on such machine learning algorithms. The tool also interfaces with VAST, the Lichtman Lab’s electron microscopy imaging visualization software. Our end goal is to make mEMbrain available to neurobiologists and labs around the world.• Developed deep learning algorithms to predict possible skeletonizations of 3D binary segmentation data using state-of-the-art U-Net neural network architecture• Created segmentations and seeding data to analyze the distribution of nuclei across muscle fibers in electron microscopy images -
Teaching Fellow, Cs 20 - Discrete Mathematics For Computer ScienceHarvard University Jan 2021 - May 2022Cambridge, Massachusetts, UsAfter taking the course in Spring 2020, I am serving as a Teaching Fellow, assisting both Harvard College and Harvard Extension School students. I am the first-ever high school student to teach CS20 at Harvard. My duties include grading assignments and exams, assisting in class meetings, holding a weekly office hours section, and answering student questions throughout the course.Student Feedback:"Holy cow, can Harvard just get this kid a faculty position already? Excellent, articulate clear explanations of concepts, always. I know for a fact that I wasn't the only student who actively sought out Emma for help.""Emma cuts right to the heart of a topic or problem. She is laser–focused and unbelievably bright, but doesn't make things unnecessarily complex.""Emma is really good at asking insightful questions. Rather than explain something directly, she would ask me how I approached a problem, and when I made a mistake she would challenge me with a question to give me something to think about, or how I might be going down the wrong path.""She was very precise in her explanations. She did an amazing job for a high school student!""Emma was a great help in the small–group problem–solving sessions. She was extremely clear and thorough in her explanations on how to solve the problem towards the end." -

I worked with the Solve team to design the Solv[ED] program around my experiences as a young entrepreneur. As a committee member, I shape our initiative's programming, particularly the Solv[ED] Youth Innovation Challenges. -
Founder & Academic Director, Wolfram Middle School Summer CampWolfram Dec 2020 - PresentChampaign, Il, UsI founded the Wolfram Middle School Summer Camp for girls. The goal of the Middle School Summer Camp is to provide girls with the confidence, knowledge, and skills to explore computer science and apply computational thinking to the fields they are interested in, and to serve as a pipeline program to the Wolfram High School Summer Camp. The inaugural Middle School Summer Camp was held in June 2021 in an entirely virtual format. I worked with the Wolfram Education Initiatives team to design the program, develop curriculum, and recruit students and staff. -

Mentee, Wolfram Mentorships ProgramWolfram Jan 2016 - Jun 2021Champaign, Il, Us• Designing a Synthetic Neural Network Layer for Image Classification - A novel approach to emulate the structure and function of receptive fields in the retina of the human eye by using linear algebra, image processing, and biomimetic computational models to create a set of fixed artificial receptive fields for computer vision neural networks. The synthetic neural network layer that uses these fixed weights improves upon both the accuracy and the training time of the network. This project won Top 300 Scholar at the Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) 2021. • Lung Cancer Detection – A machine learning algorithm to identify cancerous lung nodules in CT scans with 97% accuracy. • Natural Language Processing Framework for SolveBio – SolveBio is a biotech start-up that provides genomics intelligence platform to drive precision medicine development. Collaborated with SolveBio’s team to enhance and expand a natural language processing framework using the Wolfram Mathematica Language to allow users to query SolveBio’s database of genetic data by asking English-like questions. • White House’s Opportunity Project – Represented Wolfram Research at White House’s Opportunity Project – my project leveraged the power of the Wolfram Language to help community leaders identify and match areas of need with activity programs for school-aged children, based on the location of summer meal sites and metro stops. -
