As a first-generation Bosnian-American and Environmental Science undergraduate at American University with minors in Sustainability and Public Health, I am devoted to high environmental standards in marginalized communities. With over 3,500 volunteer hours across various environmental causes, I contribute extensively to environmental research, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement efforts. My hands-on research spans projects ranging from climate change to environmental justice, including studying coccolithophores as indicators of climate shifts in marine ecosystems and investigating the impact of microplastics on environmental health in predominantly Black and low-income communities in the DC area. Through my internships with the Center for Rural Enterprise and Environmental Justice (CREEJ), American University's Zero Waste Office, and Silicon Ranch Corporation's Clearloop, I have developed expertise in state agency correspondence, carbon footprint reduction, and sustainable development. As the Founder and Volunteer at the Sanski Most Local Clean-Up in Bosnia & Herzegovina, I utilize my multilingual abilities in Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian, and English to coordinate biannual efforts to clean up the Sana River through grassroots organizing. My volunteer work in DC earned me the "Chatmon Community Impact Award" for introducing an environmental justice volunteer project in SE DC in collaboration with Ward 8 Woods Conservancy and American University. My specialized interests include conservation, vertical agriculture, ESG/sustainability, agrivoltaics, and environmental justice. I welcome opportunities for collaboration with like-minded individuals and organizations. Let’s connect!
