About Emma Cathell, Msw

I am a Senior Program Manager at the national non-profit, Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH). Working on the Metro Team in NY, NJ, and PA, my work focuses on enhancing and increasing supportive housing through policy advocacy and systems reform, training and technical assistance, and cross-sector collaboration and convening throughout the Metro region.Before CSH, I worked at the New York City Department of Social Services (DSS) on the New York City Continuum of Care (CoC) team, which is one of the largest and most funded CoC’s in the nation. During my 2.5 years at DSS, I authored CoC governing and programming documents, executed community engagement and communications (including during the COVID-19 pandemic), and developed policy and committee initiatives. In 2019, I graduated from Columbia University with my Master’s of Science in Social Work (MSSW) and a concentration in Policy Practice. I am a well-rounded social worker; my graduate degree is based in International Social Welfare and Services to Immigrants and Refugees, and I have professional experience as a clinical therapist. In 2020, I worked part-time at Children's Aid as a Behavioral Support Specialist providing individual, family, and group therapy to youth clients.My background and experience include project management, facilitation, local and federal policy analysis, communications, housing and homelessness policy, training and presenting, international social welfare policy, and stakeholder collaboration. While studying at Columbia, I excelled in my classes (3.9 GPA) as I also interned with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-NYC Chapter) and worked part time as a Research Assistant in the university's social work department. I'm bilingual and a former Fulbright scholar. I worked in Hidalgo, Mexico for two years as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) as well as an English Professor at a technological university. In 2016, I graduated as valedictorian from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's of Social Work and a B.A. in Spanish Language & Literature.
