About Emma Goss
I'm a journalist who loves reporting across media platforms.I'm both a freelance general assignment reporter at NBC Bay Area/Telemundo 48 and an award-winning staff writer for J. The Jewish News of Northern California. (This fall, I'll be launching and hosting J's first original podcast!)I cover all regions of the Bay Area and report in English and Spanish for broadcast. I love investigative reporting, digging for the details, connecting the dots, combing through data and records and starting a conversation.As a reporter for J. the Jewish News of Northern California, I've been busy covering the most challenging issues facing Northern California's Jewish communities in the wake of Oct. 7.In January 2024, I broke the news that dozens of Jewish Oakland families were applying to leave their school district over safety concerns. The story went viral on X, and widely covered across local media. It was also cited in a federal investigation.Since then, my primary focus has been on education reporting across the Bay Area's K-12 schools and college campuses. I've become a trusted resource for educators and families to turn to for news coverage.I became a staff writer for J. in Oct. 2021 and won a Simon Rockower award in 2023 for my long-form cover story about the lack of accessible residential housing for Jewish adults with special needs.It's an honor and a dream to cover the stories that impact the community I come from.I grew up in Silicon Valley, and attended Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School and Kehillah Jewish High School. I graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with a B.A. in American Studies and a minor in Art History.Throughout college, I wrote and interned for a variety of news publications, and ultimately gravitated toward broadcast news. I worked as a news producer for NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, The Today Show, and MSNBC at 30 Rockefeller Center for four years.During that time I began specializing in business and technology journalism, covering national stories on disinformation, cybersecurity, Wall Street volatility and economic impacts, and problems inside social media companies.I transitioned from behind-the-scenes work to on-air reporting in 2018, spending two years in Bakersfield, before moving back to the Bay Area. I reported for KTVU Fox 2 News as a general assignment reporter for two years prior to coming to NBC Bay Area in January 2023.I report every week on NBC Bay Area, covering breaking news of the day.
