Allow me to set the scene. It’s 2018. I just graduated with a degree in Math (even though I needed constant tutoring all my life in this same subject). I tell my Irish immigrant parents that I’m going to be an actor. …Silence…Since then, I’ve booked multiple lead roles in short films, a co-star television role, and the lead role in an independent feature film, Magnolia Flowers. In July of 2020, I started writing sketches for TikTok as a way to explore comedy, a genre I had yet to be cast in. This led to my existential Earth series, which has garnered over 28+ million views to date and in five months, I gained 550,000+ followers. With their help, I raised $20,000 for the post production costs of Magnolia Flowers. This is why Google now refers to me as an ‘Internet Personality.’ I can’t lie. The attention was nice at first. It made me feel good.Brands were reaching out left and right.Successful creators wanted to collaborate.Agents and managers wanted to meet with me.Podcast hosts were inviting me onto their shows.Filmmakers were offering me roles without me doing a thing.I had been waiting and wishing for this since 2018.So what did I do?I quit. I simply didn’t have the right business skills to keep going. I joined MousePack, an Augmented Reality Studio, as an Assistant Producer. Soon, I was attending and participating in almost every strategy meeting - marketing, sales, finance, operations, you name it. I was promoted to Producer, then Project Manager, then Operations Manager. I developed a passion for entrepreneurship (and the skills I was lacking before). As an homage to my background in Mathematical Billiards and Ergodic Theory, as well as my grandmother who loved butterflies, I decided to launch my Newsletter: The Butterfly Effect - Small Changes, Big Impact.
