Friends of Patterson Park (FoPP) has been working to beautify and improve our community and park since 2002. We work closely with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, local nonprofit organizations and Austin Parks Foundation, which is our fiscal sponsor. We host several annual events that are popular in East Austin, including but not limited to: National Night Out Picnic, Easter egg hunt, holiday Luminarias, Fall Field Day with the Cap City Cobras, and Roots and Wings Festival with the Patterson Park Community Garden.

As President of Design For America of NYU I led interdisciplinary student teams and professional design mentors in their efforts to create and sustain social impact projects. Beyond guiding their process, I managed the studio’s administrative duties, community partnerships, and event coordination. I believe in human-centered design, the essence of which is understanding and empathizing with the user. As President of DFA I understood my members’ needs because I previously served as team lead on a project called The NYU FREEdge. Born out of my passion for food justice, this project reduced campus-wide food insecurity and consumable food waste by creating a network of community sharing refrigerators equipped with smart technology that would photograph available food and share information digitally.The Design for America of NYU is founded on our passion and belief that we can use human-centered design to tackle local social issues to develop solutions that have impact locally and globally. Our board students from different nationalities academic interests is united by the idea that by working together, we will promote positive changes. As a DFA Studio, we are part of a movement, which tackles America’s most daunting issues using our abilities at the local level.

I facilitated environmental and food education programs for elementary and middle school students. Activities focus on social-emotional development, farm-based learning, nutrition and healthy living, and ecological stewardship.
