As a Montessori child I never imagined I’d become a Montessori educator, never mind an educator of Montessori educators! I did, however, know I loved school and credit my deep desire to making a positive impact in the world to my Montessori education. I find much fulfillment in teaching future Montessori teachers because I see the impact as exponential! I enjoy teaching future Montessori teachers about the history and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori and the Montessori Method. I have created additional courses in Leadership Development for the teachers to reach their fullest potential, both as leaders who inspire leadership in their classrooms as well as their greater school communities. I have had various instructor roles at the Division of Continuing Education at UCI and have loved each of them! From helping develop a pilot leadership program for incoming freshmen students to facilitating business leadership training for executives from around the world, I have had a broad range of experiences as a contract Instructor for the UCI DCE. It all started with the creation of the Anteater Leadership Academy during the 2017/2018 academic year. I worked on a team of three instructors who built a three-course leadership curriculum as a part of the larger ALA freshmen programming. The courses we developed were titled UNI Studies: Leading from Within (Fall 2017, 3 units), Leading Others (Winter 2018, 3 units), Leading Change (Spring 2018, 3 units). I went on to teach groups of business executives visiting UCI from Brazil and Japan. This gave me the beautiful gift of facilitating with amazing translators, both synchronous and asynchronous.

As the Director of a Montessori school for children ages 2 to twelve I did it all! From the administrative functioning of the school and managing and supporting the teachers and staff to being of service to the children and families in our communities and meeting their ever-changing needs (don’t even get me started on how this came to be nearly impossible in March of 2020!). Some aspects of this position that were particularly meaningful to me were:• Upholding the mission and vision of the school through all interactions with children and families both current and prospective.• Interpreting and championing the Montessori philosophy, Montessori curriculum, educational programs, policies, and procedures of the school to current and prospective parents, children, staff and colleagues.• Assuring that the school continues to be a safe and welcoming place for all families, students, and staff.• Talent acquisition, staff management, and coaching• Strategic planning• Change Management Some aspects that were less fun for me but very necessary were: • Maintaining compliance with current laws and regulation changes in the area through accurate records, policies, and procedures.• Assisting the California Department of Social Services with audit requests and immunization reports.• Preparing and implementing disaster and emergency plans and procedures (this was heavy at times).• Managing all school internal and external communications and marketing, social media, and website (I made it happen but website design not my passion).

Being an educator of little humans is one of the most important responsibilities in the world. I truly believe being a classroom teacher is one of the most physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging professions (don't get me started on underpaid and under-appreciated). It is a profession I hold in the highest regard and will defend always. In all seriousness, I enjoyed being responsible for cultivating the optimal, positive, and prepared learning environment for the development of children between the ages of two to six. I loved being an advocate for their needs and assisting them in reaching their potential. My favorite age? 4-5! I love their endlessly kind and curious minds!
