I currently work full time as a bartender and waitress at a company called Walkabout in Bristol. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here and my deep involvement with the venue and my job has meant I've acquired skills I would not have done elsewhere. By living above the venue with other members of staff I've learned to work and live alongside my colleagues, who come from many different cultures and backgrounds, meaning I am able to be diverse in my approach to others.

Mainly revolves around collecting the views of psychology students, but also takes other students views on board and pass these onto higher members of staff who can do something to change the way the course and other things around the university are run.

As a Career PAL leader, I am positioned in the careers office at the University of the West of England, and for 2-4 hours a week, students can come to me to proof read their job applications, CVs and cover letters, to show them how to use the University's careers website and also show them how to set up a LinkedIn account. We've recently been trained to give CV advice.

I'm based in a psychotherapy clinic in Bristol, which offers low level CBT to NHS referred clients. I'm responsible for answering telephone calls, greeting people at the door, managing resources for the one to one sessions plus the group courses, and for booking appointments for clients. My roles require a friendly and approachable personality, a good telephone manner and confidence when speaking on the phone, and good organisation skills. I'm also literate with computers and have a sound knowledge of using Microsoft Outlook.

As a Project Leader with the National Autistic Society, I'm based at Frenchay campus at the University of the West of England, and along with 3 others, we're in charge of organising a monthly social group for autistic individuals aged 18+, and offering them a calm, stress free environment to socialise with others. This role involves, advertising the social group, fundraising, communicating with companies to arrange deals and any special requirements, communicating with the other project leaders effectively, budgeting and researching the disorder to improve the quality of care we can provide. The role requires us to be aware of the risks of our role, and also to know a lot of information about autistic spectrum disorder as a mental health problem.

As a Stop Smoking Advisor, I offer advice and support to individuals wishing to stop smoking. Once a week for 2-3 hours, I help run a Stop Smoking Clinic with 3 others on Frenchay Campus, University of the West of England. I offer support in the form of leaflets and information on stopping smoking, and am also able to prescribe nicotine replacement therapy of the clients choice, including patches, gum, inhalors, lozenges, nasal/mouth spray, and microtabs. The clinic offers clients a place to talk about their smoking habits, about why they desire to stop smoking, and provides helpful advice on ways to reduce cravings and hopefully stop smoking for good.

Bartending at the Brass Pig requires great teamwork and excellent communication skills. Due to the constant interaction with customers, friendliness and politeness are key attributes that are constantly in use. As part of my job I'm required to work carefully with money, have knowledge on a wide range of alcoholic drinks, and I'm also competant in making a large range of cocktails.

When I was in my final years of secondary school. I opted to visit Heritage House School, a school for children aged 4-16 with special needs. I visited weekly and assisted the head swim coach with teaching the children to swim. It required getting into the pool, working one on one with the children, and being alert at all times. Along with others I was responsible for the welfare of the children, and at the time I was involved with this role, I was not that old myself, so found this aspect challenging but also rewarding.
