Profile bio

About Emmanuel Garza

My professional goals are driven by using the intersection of math, programming, data and domain-specific knowledge to solve problems. I strive to be systematic, open-minded and humble, always looking to learn new things. I’m a firm believer that most complex problems have solutions based on simple and elegant ideas. As a physics undergraduate, I discovered my love for computational mathematics, where problems that are impossible to solve with pen and paper become menial tasks for today’s computers. This passion led me to Caltech, first as summer undergraduate researcher, and then as a graduate student. My time as a PhD candidate was mostly devoted to developing computational software to model the scattering of electromagnetic waves on complex obstacles, and using these models to design optical devices.
