Patient care- Assistants may be responsible for assisting in the care of hospitalized animals. These responsibilities may include exercising, feeding, and/or observing animals for signs of illness. Kennel duties such keeping patients clean, disinfecting runs/cages and washing laundry are also part of the assistants duties. Laboratory- Able to operate all in-house diagnostics tests, Process samples for laboratory submission, input laboratory results and maintain the cleanliness of the laboratory area. Pharmacy- Able to fill prescription requests for non-controlled substances. Inventory- Able to help unpack inventory, which includes cross checking the inventory that came in with the invoice coming with the package. Able to stock hospital supplies, watch for low quantity or outdated supples and should be able to log outdated or low quantity items appropriately. Other duties that can be preformed include:Accurately invoice clients from charges on travel sheets or medical records. Provide clients with memorials of their pets for any euthanized pet. Know all possible location for storage of records of hospitalize patients. Check medial records for completeness of notes, charges, callbacks, and reminders. Ensure that records include current patients weight as well as up to date laboratory test, procedure results, immunization, diagnoses, and treatments. Measure and record each sick patient's temperature, pulse rate, and respiratory rates. Assistants may perform suture removals, nail trims, and express anal glands under the supervision of the technicians Assistants may assist veterinary technicians in administering preoperative medication.
