Problem solving is something I love. What I enjoy even more is getting involved in and understanding my client's world so that I can work with them to provide tailored solutions. As a Partner in the real estate dispute resolution team at CMS, the leading and largest team in Europe, this is something I get to do every day. My focus is on clients in the energy sector and while most claims are dealt with in the County and High Court I also have experience in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. I would emphasise however that litigation should be a last resort. Parties should always consider ADR, especially where relationships can be maintained, and I have seen a surge of successful mediations over the last few years.I have a keen interest in the digital disruption of legal services and see this as presenting far more opportunity than challenge with the possibility of adding real value to the client experience through a combination of people; process; and technology. Add in the same disruptor within the real estate industry and things get even more interesting.Day to day I advise a wide variety of clients on development agreements, joint ventures, option provisions, nuisance and trespassers. I provide pre-disposal advice on easements, overage provisions and ransom strips. I also work with institutional clients dealing with retail, office and light industrial portfolio management and landlord and tenant issues including commercial lease renewals, breaches of lease covenants and dilapidations; and for Banks, Administrators and Receivers advising in relation to distressed property assets, restructuring and other issues arising out of the various forms of insolvency including CVAs and Restructuring Plans.I have experience of contentious planning matters including Judicial Review and applications to modify restrictive covenants under Section 84 of the Law of Property Act 1925. I also have good experience of commercial claims having acted on a number of multi-million pound High Court claims.
