(I had 7 months off while I lived and worked abroad from September 2020 - April 2021)Relationship Building · Interpersonal Relationships · Time Management · Professional Responsibility · Conflict Resolution · Conflict ManagementAssistant at a living facility dedicated to people with severe mental and physical disabilities.Skills developed or advanced includes (but not limited to):- Strict time management - Quick thinking, in an ever changing work environment, where different (and often times contradicting) needs emerge constantly- Maintaining a professional and respectful approach to all work tasks, unaffected by how challenging they might be or not.Responsibilities including (but not limited to):- Mental support (including respectfully dealing with and talking about sensitive subjects, such as family relations, death, sorrows etc.)- Actively engage clients through conversation and companionship- Engage with clients in a manner that promotes their independence and maintains their dignity - Administer medications as outlined- Help clients with physical therapy exercises- Report any unusual incidents or behavior- Maintain a safe environment for clients- Address client needs with respect and attention to safety- Assist clients with daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, dressing, eating etc.

I moved to the South of France for 7 months during my gap year.My motivation:I initially planned a year-long trip throughout Australia, shifting between work and travel. In short, to further my language skills and independence, but especially to broaden my perspective on life outside of Denmark. Then COVID-19 came and closed the borders. I was determined I wanted to live abroad during my gap year and within a week of researching pandemic-friendly alternatives to AUS, I signed with an incredible French family who let me live in their guest house in exchange of me teaching their three children English. I ended up gaining everything I had hoped for and beyond from moving abroad (during the pandemic). I got to: - live in a foreign country - more specifically Nice, France (an otherwise highly popular city) empty of tourists - learn about French culture, traditions and the language from an inside perspective- create a solid network of people despite very difficult circumstances (strict lockdowns, curfews ect.)- challenge (myself and) the language barrier head on, communicating in a foreign language, I was not fluent in (French) (handling everything from taxes, scheduling Covid-tests, creating a bank account etc.)But most importantly, I learned an invaluable lesson: unforeseeable challenges are inevitable in life, but with a positive attitude, the right mindset and determination, the outcome of what I am dealing with is likely to even exceed what I initially set out for, because of those challenges.
