Hi! I'm Emma Walton and am currently a senior pursuing a degree in cognitive science with a minor in anthropology at the University of Connecticut. During my time at Uconn, I have studied the complications of the human mind and discovered passions for psychology and archaeology.In addition to my studies, I am a member of the painting club at Uconn, which gives me an outlet for my creativity. When I'm not studing, I enjoy relaxing by playing video games, going on hikes and indulging in my guilty pleasure of watching reality tv shows like Too Hot To Handle.Beyond academics, I love exploring and going on new adventures. In the summer of 2023, I participated in Uconn faculty led anthropological research on the island of Mauritius located off the coast of Madagascar. There, we conducted interviews with Mauritians on cultural beauty standards and immersed ourselves in their culture. We visited many religious temples, learned about Mauritian history, ate local cuisine and were even fortunate enough to witness a ritual called the kavadi attam. This experience has expanded my awareness and appreciation of cultural differences, provided me with hands-on field research experience, and refined my research skills. I'm eager to continue pursuing anthropological research and hope to gain research experience in the field of cognitive science in the future.
