Emma Soubrier is a French PhD in Political Science from Auvergne University (Clermont Ferrand) and attached to the Strategic Research Institute (IRSEM). From 2012 to 2015, her research beneficiated from a financial support by the Directorate-General for Armament (DGA, at the French MoD) and Airbus Defence & Space (ex Cassidian). In 2013, Emma was one of the Young Strategists selected by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). From 2016 to 2018, Emma was Desk Officer for Gulf countries at the Directorate-General for International Relations and Strategy (DGRIS, at the French MoD). In 2018, her PhD thesis, entitled "What security for the “Small Princes-States” of the Gulf? Defense policies and procurement strategies of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates", was awarded a Prize for 3rd Best PhD Thesis by the Institute for Higher National Defense Studies (IHEDN). As of September 2018, Emma is in Washington, D.C. as a Visiting Scholar (Postdoc) at the Institute for Middle East Studies, Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University.
