Profile bio

About Emma Miles

I’m a recent graduate from Duke University. I earned my B.S.E. in biomedical engineering. During my time at Duke, I worked in two world-class research labs studying tuberculosis as well as griffithsin. Through these labs I have experience with and am capable of independent problem identification and solving. I commonly design long projects, manage projects, create protocols, and present research. Not only can I perform independent research but also capable of writing effective reports, performing basic administrative tasks, as well as effectively presenting reports and experiments. I chose to specialize in tissue engineering as well as biomaterials/biomechanics. I am fascinated by the way live tissues grow and what separates living material from non-living materials. I am beginning to look at roles in industry specifically looking at research and design. My ultimate career goal is to apply biomedical engineering to issues of reproductive health. Beyond my core engineering work, I enjoy working with other people and on projects that reach beyond that of mathematical blueprints. I am most at home in labs and therefore have spent as much of my time as possible in labs working on various projects. I also take interest in women’s issues and like to help young women coming into STEM.

Listed skills include Research, Science, Data Analysis, Matlab, and 19 others.
