I focused on viral diagnostics and especially all flavors of HIV- and hepatitis diagnostics, from large-scale routine serological testing to sequencing and point-of-care testing. During 2020 I had major medical responsibility for HIV- and hepatitis testing at Karolinska.

I integrated specialist training in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Karolinska University Hospital. A perfect combination and a great learning experience.

My Internship with the HIV Drug Resistance Team was the start of a collaboration that led to my first publication. I was supervised by Dr Michael R Jordan on a project to evaluate the use of ambiguous nucleotides in HIV-1 pol sequences to determine time-of-infection.

My year in in Uppsala was a great introduction to Infectious Diseases and made me certain that I wanted to continue working in the field.

My internship at the small country hospital in Norrtälje was an important experience and a terrific introduction to clinical work and responsibilities.
