I have been working in different roles at Austin Health for over 34 year and still love going to work. Great opportunities to connect with people from different departments. Friendly staff members and excellent career development options for young inspiring Nurses which like to challenge themselves learning new skills. Nursing has changed over the many years with technology introductions and last year when COVID-19 arrived in Australia. This had brought on new challenges, and I can report after contracting COVID-19 last year I am back at work and love the interactions with patients, family members and colleges. Coming back after the infection to work has helped me to overcoming the challenges I faced when I had COVID-19. Don't give up and continue learning and there is something new around every day to learn.I am still working after many years working in Nursing as I started my training back on the 1 April 1964 in Marien Hospital Muelheim Ruhr Germany. It has been a great joy for me to work as nurse over the years the many years helping family and sick patients during this time. Each shift is different and seeing patient smile makes me glad I am a nurse, and this is the best profession you can have. On the first October 1990 I started as a Nurse at Austin Hospital. Over the 34 years working at the Austin Hospital, I have seen lots of changes within different roles. The best role I had was the Nurse Educator out of Hours. Working night shifts and supporting the Nurses overnight. No Nurses do not sleep at night because patients are sick, ringing bells and emergencies occur. As the Nurse Educator for the night staff, I also became a student. I had to broaden my knowledge base to cover the different specialties offered at the hospital. This has been, an ongoing adventure that has provided education opportunities that have extended my knowledge and practical skills. The role was developed over the years to meet the challenging needs of the organization, which have resulted in me being responsible in providing and supporting the night staff with education, both theoretical and practical. This position has brought great challenges, professionally as well as personally, which have seen me surpass my previous level of skills and knowledge. It has been an adventure that has extended my talents and brought satisfaction in being part of the educational experience for both new graduates and those nurses who have many years of clinical experience.Nurses you have the opportunity to take a break and then come back to work.
