About Sarah "Sass" Burn

Alright folks, why should you lend me your ears (well eyes anyway)? Well, I've got some real-life experience in bouncing back from tough times. As a kid, I was all over the map, quite literally. Moving around Middle Eastern communities as an ex-pat brat, I became a pro at masking, looking like I was adapting to new places and faces. Making friends? Tough stuff. Especially when the tacit social rules kept changing. Then came boarding school at age 12, and let me tell you, that was less fun than the Mallory Towers would have you believe. Bullying, pressure to fit in, homesickness. Coping? Yeah, I had some not-so-great strategies. But hey, I turned things around. I ditched the bad habits and found healthier ways to regulate my emotions.Teaching seemed like my calling, but to tell the truth, the system's become a mess in the last few decades. Too much focus on numbers, not enough on actual teaching. Burnout city, here I come. Rejections and setbacks? Indubitably. In my mid-twenties, the weight of it all came crashing down on me. I found myself in a moment of utter exhaustion, sitting on the kitchen floor surrounded by spilled rice, unable to muster the mental strength to clean it up. I sat there for hours, tears streaming down my face, feeling completely overwhelmed and powerless.Fast forward a bit, I made some big changes. Started a self-care practice, cur back on the booze, embraced my neurodivergent spicy self, and dived into trying to find a new career. Pandemic hits? No problem, I pivoted like a pro. I embarked on a journey into social work, pursuing a postgraduate diploma and a master's degree within the first two years of practice and becoming an Autism specialist practitioner within the third.Oh, and did I mention the roller-skating accident? Shattered bone, torn ligament, metal plate and three manipulations to get it back in the joint. Within a year, I'm back at it, even tackling a marathon (albeit at a walk) to raise money for charity. So, what's my deal? I've been through some tough times and come out the other side. And now, I'm here to help others do the same. If you're a woman like me, juggling being neurodivergent in a world made for neurotypicals and a helping or education profession, I've got the roadmap to get you out of overwhelm. Trust me, I've been there, done that, and got the neon cat T-shirt.
