jdhinter@alum.mit.edu, 203-691-0224Network design, Wi-Fi, wireless communications, management, technology consulting, expert witnessIn 2008, with a newly minted MBA and about a decade of experience as a Systems Engineer for a semiconductor capital equipment company under my belt, I went to go work for a start-up installing and managing Wi-Fi in apartment buildings, to run their Engineering department. My first day, I discovered that I WAS the engineering department Two weeks later, I find myself on a military base in Sugar Grove, West Virginia, debugging a mesh network of ours that had, quite obviously, not been designed and deployed properly.This was my introduction to the field of Wi-Fi.When presented with such challenges to sink or swim, I chose to dive right in. That's just the type of person I am. After six years of learning the technology and designing, deploying, and troubleshooting various Wi-Fi networks across multiple verticals, I decided to get certified to definitively show my knowledge, first achieving the CWNA in 2013. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn, and within two years I was officially a Certified Wireless Network Expert (CWNE #171).It turns out, this was not the end of my journey, but just the end of the beginning of my journey.Since achieving the CWNE, I've worked for Wi-Fi equipment manufacturers, where I've learned what works and what doesn't for business decisions for both product development and marketing. In my current position, my MBA skills are in overdrive, figuring out how to break into a crowded Wi-Fi market environment infested with marketing hype and misinformation, let alone that pesky "interference", in order to create a niche for LigoWave products in the mid-market space for customers who need the reliability, performance, and support of high-end manufacturers, but don't have the budgets to match.Every day, I have the rare pleasure to do what I love; work with customers to solve their Wi-Fi problems engineer solutions that meet real requirements, and teach and mentor both colleagues and customers in the best ways to deploy Wi-Fi.
