We impact over 3,000 youth & families annually through 7 clubhouses operating across Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties.

Open School, Inc. supports marginalized students on their journeys of breaking limiting beliefs, navigating systems of oppression, and building their life goals. The work is done through two high impact programs – Open School East and Step Up. Open School East is a full-day alternative school in East Portland that offers a small school relationship-based community for students in grades 7-12. Step Up is an integrated support that offers after-school programming for 9th and 10th grade students on 3 PPS high school campuses (Roosevelt, Madison, & Franklin).

Communities In Schools of the Big Country is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that has a mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our mission is executed through Student Success Coaches who work on school campuses to help students improve their school performance in the areas of Attendance, Academics, and Behavior. The overall objective is to help every at-risk student achieve success in school, graduate from high school, and be prepared for college, work, and life. CIS Big Country is part of a national network of 155 affiliates operating in 25 states to serve 364 school districts, 2,300 schools, and 1.4 million students. CIS Big Country is specifically responsible for serving 3 school districts, 10 schools, and 1,000 students in Abilene, Wylie, and Snyder Independent School Districts.

Built Shop4Next.com as an online billboard game to engage community in the process of empowering at-risk students to go to college. The site was selected to receive funding through a Citibank Global Impact and Innovation grant ($320,000 over 3 years). The site generated $100,000 annually in ad partnerships with local businesses, attracted 2,500 site users, and funded scholarships for 25 students each year. The site operated independently from September 2011 to August 2014 then merged into operation under Communities In Schools of the Big Country from August 2014 to August 2017. The site is currently inactive due to a shift in organizational focus. A demo video of the site can be viewed below.

Launched asset-building initiatives for Community Action Agencies and other non-profits working to break cycles of poverty through Individual Development Accounts and community tax centers. Clients included United Way of Abilene, Concho Valley Community Action Agency, Central Texas Opportunities, and Midland College. Specific services provided included strategic planning, project implementation, resource development, and ongoing training and technical support. Projects reached 5,000 families annually across 4 small cities in the Greater West Texas area.

Worked directly under the Executive Director to oversee all day-to-day operations for services provided to help low-income families break cycles of poverty. Services included Comprehensive Energy Assistance, Weatherization Assistance, Individual Development Accounts, Community Tax Assistance, and Head Start/Early Head Start. Served 2,000 clients annually across a 19-county region.
