All posts, comments, and shares are my own and may not reflect the opinion of any other party.Over 26 years of experience in emergency services and emergency management, having held leadership roles in response and recovery in fourteen major disaster declarations (Stafford Act) and one state declared disaster. Managed personnel in a variety of exercises, such as the Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program to support the Shearon Harris NPP. Applied for, and managed projects funded by over $4.8 million in federal, state, and foundation grants. Planned and led implementation teams for seminars and conferences on disaster management. Created and deployed public preparedness outreach programs such as the state emulated cinema preparedness advertising program and a preparedness training program for new immigrants. Served as a Subject Matter Expert on federal, state, and local panels and forums.- Co-developed, with the Public and International Affairs Department Chair, an emergency management concentration in the Master’s in Conflict Management and Resolution program at UNC Wilmington.- Author or co-author of four publications, one of which was a report generated through serving on a committee created by the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007 (Public Law 110-53) and provided to the U.S. House and Senate.- Served as Exercise Director for an eleven campus hurricane exercise known as the Hurricane Zephyr project guiding FEMA and contractors in planning and implementing full scale, functional, and table top exercise portions of the exercise that took place over several weeks in October 2017.- Volunteers on the Government Affairs Committee of the International Association of Emergency Managers to improve the relationship between the emergency management profession and policy makers.- Maintains a professional focus on positive and negative impacts on technology advancements, such as how personal electronics may improve life safety as well as challenges in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and industry's movement towards achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).- Maintains a research focus on barriers to climate change resilience and mitigation due to low levels of risk awareness, gaps in culturally competent risk communication, and depoliticization efforts on the topic.
