About Emma Wardell

I am a recent graduate of the University of Vermont where I earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies with a minor in Sociology. Throughout my time at UVM I developed a deep interest in working to further sustainable initiatives through grassroots activism, service learning, and leadership experiences, specifically where sustainability intersects with fashion and waste management. My passions within these facets include the circular (fashion) economy/closed-loop systems and the development of sustainable waste systems via secondhand consumerism. I'm eager to apply my developing knowledge of sustainability within science, culture, fashion, and consumer behavior towards future work opportunities. I hope to enter into the fashion industry and work to foster and develop sustainable approaches and practices within its supply chain.

A two-pronged project, this internship uses the first Phase to explore general adaptability to further inform Phase II, which pursues the implementation of an education and consignment store on the University of Vermont's campus. The completion of this self-imagined and guided project has the potential to educate members on the global environmental impacts of textile waste and how they can mitigate those impacts within their own lives moving forward. The prospective store's purpose will be twofold: 1) a consignment center and 2) an educational hub that fosters inclusion and collective action in the face of an increasingly wasteful industry.
