Provide English as a Foreign Language instruction to students on a freelance basis, with contracts both directly between students and myself as well as through various language schools. The diverse base of students taught includes young children (3-6 years of age), high school and university students, and business professionals who are already established in their careers. Course sizes vary from 1-on-1 instruction, small groups, and classes of about 15 students. All courses taught are personalized to the individual academic or professional needs of each student, demanding creativity and flexibilty when developing the curriculum utilizing the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) approach.

Support consultants in research on environmental and land-use policy and planning with an emphasis on observing the drivers of and potential solutions for deforestation. Other focus areas include environmental policy evaluation, climate finance, sustainable agriculture, and supply chain management. The professionally and culturally diverse team of consultants with backgrounds in biology, forestry, law, and economics led to the firm handling multiple projects with widely varying characteristics, leading to an improved understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the field of sustainability consulting. Working on these projects with the Climate Focus team resulted in learning first hand the ways consultants produce meaningful deliverables for their diverse clients through a wide variety of project actions ranging from research to project planning, monitoring, and evaluation. This also built a deeper understanding of the project cycle in consulting work, having worked with projects at various stages and participating in conversations on concept development and project acquisition. Climate Focus works with a broad network of Environmental NGOs on a number of its projects, leading to a better sense of the way both organizations work with each other in order to pursue common objectives. Interdisciplinary research skills were also improved further through combining the explanatory knowledge held within peer-reviewed literature in economics, political science, ecology, biology, and other fields with the policy- and implementation-specific knowledge held within national and international legislation, official reports, media, and other secondary sources. This ultimately developed a more finely-tuned sense of what constitutes information that is relevant to both policy and project implementation to guide own academic research.

Completed 1,769 hours of community service as an 11-month term of service with AmeriCorps through United Way of Central Indiana. Received professional development from experts in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading at the M.A. Rooney Foundation, in order to serve as a Literacy Tutor at Brookside Elementary School, an Indianapolis Public School. The skills gained during this time were not solely technical, but also personal skills that relate to character. The foremost of these have been adaptability and collaboration, as AmeriCorps members participate as team members within the nation's underserved public sectors, demanding that members go above and beyond the responsibilities of the job description in order to find creative solutions that ultimately boost the success of the overall team, not merely the success of any certain individual. Additional skills include interpersonal and intercultural communications, as work is conducted in socioeconomically poorer areas with a clientele that have had a drastically different experience than my own. Last, but certainly not least, skills were strengthened in remaining resilient in situations that appear to be bleak or hopeless on the surface, learning to manage emotional reactions in order to remain focused on the task at hand and provide services to those in need.
