I grew up in the greater Los Angeles area and started my ‘business career’ when I was still in grade school, starting a Sunday only paper route in our community. Starting with no customers, I built the route to over 125 customers, learning such essential business skills as bookkeeping (accounts receivable and payable), customer service and reliability. Swimming competitively became my sport through Junior High, High School and College, competing with the best in the world. In college, I found water polo and our team won the league championship two years in a row.After graduating from Northern Arizona University, I moved to Seattle, Washington, with the intent of getting a job, getting married, raising a family and retiring. I went to work for United Fruit Company (Chiquita Banana) and one year later I received a promotion and relocated to Long Beach, CA. This was the start of my moves across country. New York City, Minneapolis, MN, Albuquerque, NM, and then back to the Seattle area, now with my wife and dog and the addition of two boys.Once I had a family, I found the corporate world not conducive to a family life – being a good husband and father. I was working from 4 am to 7 pm (and later) six days a week, plus phone calls at all hours. I decided to put all the skills and talents I had to work for myself, and spend more time with my family – a decision I have never regretted.I also found a “hobby” that became a second income stream – umpiring baseball and softball. Umpiring became my passion, next to my wife and children. I was selected 7 times to work National Championship tournaments, was selected as Umpire of the Year in the greater Seattle area, conducted training clinics for new and established umpires, and I was elected twice as President of the Seattle Metro Softball Umpires Association.I have been active in the community and business organizations, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce, The Mountaineers, President/Chairman of community sports association, Parks Development Board, and Toastmaster International. I have completed the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking course and the Dale Carnegie Sales Training course. I have given Inspirational/Motivational presentations of Lions Club, Rotary International, Kiwanis and select businesses.
