Strategic consulting including research, facilitation and training with a focus on closing the gap between policy and practice within Government. As an experienced facilitator, evaluator and project manager with a strong background within Crime Prevention and the Criminal Justice System I chaired the national Hate Crimes Working Group, a multidisciplinary workgroup that was established in late 2009 and comprises of civil society organisations working on different forms of prejudice and violence that play a role in lobbying government to develop interventions that will act against hate crimes in South Africa. Over the last nineteen years I have managed a Unity Through Youth Programme, the Mediation Training Programme, a five year Criminal Justice Strengthening Project and numerous projects around improved service delivery within local and provincial government. Since 1998 I have also variously served on the KwaZulu Natal Provincial Victim Empowerment Forum and the National South African Police Service Committee responsible for providing oversight on the development of in-service victim support training for police members. During 2008/9 Iole provided project management support to the Department of Justice around implementation of the Child Justice, Childrens and Sexual Offences Acts. This work has included drafting both the Child Justice National Policy Framework and the policy framework for One Stop Child Justice Centres. I also facilitated the Integrated Child Justice Forum meetings on behalf of the DOJ&CD. Previous work includes managing, monitoring and evaluating a range of projects including the National Prosecuting Authority’s Restorative Justice and Community Prosecution Projects.

Development and implementation of policy for Child Justice and Sexual Offences Act

Partnered with the National Prosecution Authority and Danish Government to initiate, establish and test community prosecution as a crime reduction methodology. Results included measurably reduced crime at 4 sites, increased perceptions of safety at 6 sites, overall improved interagency co-operation and increased community participation
