My work at the JCU Marine Geophysics Laboratory is diverse and challenging, and contrary to the name the lab works on a variety of fields and areas. One of my roles is to construct and maintain the Nephelometer instruments developed in house. These instruments are utilised along the eastern coast of Australia primarily on the Great Barrier reef and measure turbidity, deposition, temperature, and pressure. Over the past 5 years, contrary to the name, the Marine Geophysics Lab has branched out into both mining and precision agriculture. I have assisted in the development of a borehole inspection tool called the "Holosense" which is used to measure the wear and roundness of paste fill pipes at mine sites across Australia. Finally, I have worked in partnership with several engineers in the development of a weed control system using image processing, machine learning, and position tracking to targeting invasive weeds in north and north-west Queensland. This project started in early 2013 and has since been funded by the Australian Government allowing us to target more weed species and begin to robotise an all-terrain vehicle to serve as the platform for an autonomous weed control solutions.

During my vacation placement at Mount Isa Mines I thoroughly utilised the procedures and standards for asset management and reliability and have gained a working knowledge of the Ventyx Ellipse enterprise resource planning software. In that time I developed a procedure for asset management which has been implemented at the Mount Isa Analytical Laboratory to enable the management and reliability tracking of all new and existing assets. I also assisted in the repair and replacement of analytical instrumentation used in the laboratory.
