Generative AI enables broad, powerful new functionality for users, but also represents vast new potential risks to users globally. To ensure the responsible and rapid release of new Google AI models and applications, I drive the definition, deployment and enforcement of Trust & Safety launch governance programs across Google product areas covering O(thousands) launches from product organizations representing over 50k FTE.

I lead a program management team in providing Google Cloud customers with unprecedented visibility into their cloud posture as they deploy, manage, grow and protect their deployments. Our services & tools enable them to protect, inventory, monitor and analyze their cloud assets, address vulnerabilities and respond to threats, through surfaces such as GCP’s Cloud Security Command Center, Cloud Key Management, Confidential Computing, Cloud Asset APIs and Data Loss Prevention service.

As GCP Security & Privacy program manager, I drove broad horizontal initiatives across all Google Cloud services to ensure the strongest, most consistent, most holistic security, privacy, control & transparency infrastructure & tools in the cloud space.Successfully delivering horizontal initiatives required driving hundreds of independently executing GCP service teams, spanning O(tens of thousands) engineers, to buy into and achieve shared goals - through next-level influencing, collaboration, interpersonal skills, strategic and technical leadership - and continues to prove deeply satisfying.

Exciting new Google products increasingly depend on external partners from diverse industries and geographies, from banking to media analytics to personal travel. I built & led teams across North America & Europe that made those partnerships successful at many levels - technical, business & operational. I grew those teams to make an impact in these areas:PARTNER SELECTION & INTEGRATION- We advised business and legal teams on partner selection and contractual terms. We then onboarded new partners through a very broad range of services, from technical assistance, to business consultation, to automation and operational design.PRODUCT DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION - We helped define and optimize how products and partners connect, at the technical and user interface levels.PARTNER SUPPORT INFRASTRUCTURE & SCALING - When events occur at internet speed, business partners depend on solutions being provided at internet speed. To succeed at scale - hundreds, even thousands of partners - infrastructure must rapidly evolve, from tooling & workflow improvements, to staffing efficiencies. This was our wheelhouse.

MICROSOFT OFFICE, MOBILE SHARED SERVICES OFFICE MOBILE FILE OPERATIONS. Owned feature definition, technical and visual design for the next generation of Office mobile file operations features. Also drove team planning, tracking, coordination and execution. OFFICE AND THE INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT). Drove early explorations into the use of IOT devices (e.g sensors) and data within Microsoft Office applications. Role included business analysis, scenario definition and visual design.ENGINEERING INTEGRATION & STREAMLINING. Accelerated and diversified Office Mobile releases to mobile platforms by deploying Agile-based infrastructure and process to a highly distributed and diverse engineering environment (500 engineers, 10 teams, 5 time zones, 3 countries), including on-site Agile training in China, India and the US. Redesigned Mobile planning, coordination, globalization, QA, compliance, telemetry and sustained engineering mechanisms. BROAD DIVISIONAL REENGINEERING. Based on successes in streamlining Office Mobile execution, expanded retooling and training activities to the broader Microsoft Office Division.

ENGINEERING INFRASTRUCTURE. Formalized planning, coordination, communications, quality control, metrics, stage gates (stabilization, release criteria) and sustained engineering processes for Microsoft’s nascent Health Solutions Group (HSG), encompassing HealthVault and Amalga product teams. This highly leveraged Agile execution principles.OVERALL RELEASE MANAGEMENT, HEALTHVAULT. Responsible for overall feature prioritization, progress tracking, communication and readiness of the Microsoft HealthVault service. Also charged with representing the engineering team in complex international licensing contract negotiations.

SecondSpace Inc (now DataSphere) FOUNDER, RELEASE MANAGEMENT TEAM. Defined, installed and drove the software planning and execution infrastructure for fast-growing internet technology firm. Agile-based tools and workflows were heavily leveraged to accelerate innovation. GLOBAL RELEASE MANAGER. Served as overall project manager for the entire product cycle, for all releases, for the entire product cycle from inception to international deployment and into sustaining.

OWNER, MSN SHOPPING INTERNATIONAL V1 DESIGN & LAUNCH. Drove planning, market analysis, visual and technical redesign, business plan, vendor negotiations and launch of MSN Shopping International v1 to Europe, Australia & Japan. BUSINESS ANALYSIS & READINESS EVALUATION. Defined market-specific release requirements using focus groups (in Germany, France, UK) and in-country legal counsel. Lead in-market teams in evaluating overall readiness prior to launch.SOFTWARE DESIGN. Designed and drove development of market-specific versions of MSN Shopping, from partnering with local data aggregators, to improving data schema, to targeting user experience.OPERATIONAL PLANNING & VENDOR NEGOTIATIONS. Selected and provisioned the European data center. Defined business staffing needs, trained in-country teams, and helped define business model. Negotiated vendor implementation contracts. FOUNDER, RELEASE MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINED ENGINEERING TEAM. Designed engineering processes for MSN Shopping US - design, planning, coordination, communications, quality, deployment, and sustained engineering. Staffed a new PM team to drive engineering execution. Introduced Agile-based methodologies into engineering activities.

FEATURE OWNER, SHAREPOINT 2003 PRODUCT INSTALLATION, SITE CREATION AND ADMINISTRATION FUNCTIONALITY. Designed and drove development for server installation, configuration, site setup and site management functionality for Microsoft’s SharePoint Portal Server product, which quickly grew into a $1 Billion+ revenue product.FOUNDER, SHAREPOINT 2001 RELEASE ENGINEERING TEAM. Defined and staffed new program management team to drive overall engineering execution and tracking, product internationalization, customer program coordination (Advisory Council, Early Adoption and Beta Programs) and sustained engineering for the v1 release of SharePoint Portal Server.

CUSTOMIZABLE STARTER SITESGROUP MANAGER, STARTER SITES PM TEAM. Staffed and drove a six-person team designing a suite of automated site templates as companions to the Microsoft Site Server internet server product.

GROUP PROGRAM MANAGER, BUSINESS SYSTEMS, DATA CENTER INFRASTRUCTURE AND WEB DEPLOYMENTS MSN V1 INFRASTRUCTURE. Built and trained a 40+ program management team to drive three critical areas for the inaugural release of the Microsoft Network (MSN v1): Business Systems, Data Center Infra and Web Deployments.BUSINESS SYSTEMS. Designed and drove creation of the MSN v1 accounts and billing platform, account management tools, and marketing tools.DATA CENTER INFRASTRUCTURE AND TOOLS. Defined, selected or audited all data center tools and workflows for MSN v1, including: hardware monitoring, software admin, network management, capacity planning, security, trouble ticketing, site monitoring, emergency response and disaster recovery.INTERNET DEPLOYMENTS. Defined tools, workflow and criteria for porting existing Microsoft Multimedia Division content into web-based MSN offerings.

Product Support SystemsOVERALL PRODUCT SUPPORT TOOLS OWNERSHIP. Designed and drove development for the Microsoft PSS Workbench, the primary internal customer support tool. PSSWB was a large telephony-integrated, client-server application, serving thousands of engineers, and became an early reference implementation for SQL server on Windows NT.

MICROSOFT MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS AND LANGUAGES DIVISIONSMULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT. Developed a prototype authoring environment for Microsoft Viewer, a PC-based interactive multimedia presentation package. Software languages used include C & Microsoft Office BASIC.MACRO ASSEMBLER DEVELOPMENT. Developed error-reporting & code-listing modules for the Microsoft Assembler language product, MASM version 6.0. Software languages used include Visual C & 8086 Assembler.

BELL NORTHERN RESEARCH AND NORTHERN TELECOMSOFTWARE DESIGN ENGINEER, FIBER LOOP CARRIER MICROPROCESSOR MESSAGING. Developed RS-232 based messaging software for microprocessors in two hardware prototype environments & for a UNIX-based workstation. Software languages used include C & 68020 Assembler.TEST ENGINEER & FAILURE ANALYST, CORPORATE COMPONENTS ENGINEERING. Designed, built, executed and interpreted suites of electrical & electronic component acceptance tests. Performed field failure analyses on electrical components as required.
