I joined Synova, grad of prestigious Y-combinator & StartX accelerators, as the first employee, working closely with the founders to develop a groundbreaking device that extracts stem cells from adipose tissue. Named after the Aramaic word for "finding one's inner courage and strength," we founded Lebbana Baking Company to empower underserved and underrepresented communities. While we made some of the best middle eastern desserts and giant stuffed cookies, our mission extended beyond baking; we dedicated a portion of all proceeds to charities supporting these communities, raising awareness of (my co-founder’s) Assyrian culture. As a co-founder, I embraced the challenge of learning baking, recipe and kitchen protocol development, product packaging and display design, and culinary business management from scratch. This demonstrates a strong commitment to stepping outside my comfort zone and ability to quickly learn and apply scientific experiments to any field. The venture concluded when my business partner began a PhD program, and my responsibilities at Synova intensified. • Strategic Business Development: Successfully negotiated partnerships with various restaurants and bars to distribute our products, and crafted agreements with corporations for client outreach programs. We became the sole provider of several large companies and clients for annual appreciation gifts due to our elegant packaging and amazing product. These initiatives propelled our annual sales to $60,000 by the second year of operation. • Operational Leadership and Culinary Management: Authored the business plan, spearheaded hiring processes, and managed daily operations. Created workflows and experiments to optimize output from the three employees we had during this period. Created “tournament brackets” for testing various components of ingredients until we found the perfect product. • Legal and Administrative: Managed all government and FDA requirements including incorporation and legal paperwork, health department compliance, business, and vendor licenses.

In this role, I managed operations and projects within the Neuroscience department, led a team of lab technicians for my scientific projects, and independently managed the company's intellectual property portfolio.Research and Development:Mechanism of Migraine: Developed an in-vitro blood/CSF barrier model with choroid plexus cells to explore sodium efflux in migraines and test new drugs.Na+/K+ Pump Inhibitor: Collaborated with Dr. Stoltz at Caltech on a novel migraine treatment inhibitor.T-cell Metabolism in Alzheimer’s: Advanced my prior work, identifying T-cell metabolism characteristics to predict Alzheimer’s pre-symptomatic brain chemistry.Early Alzheimer’s Urine Test: Created a diagnostic for early Alzheimer's detection through urine analysis.Flow Cytometry Patent: Invented and prototyped an automated antibody staining device for flow cytometry, drafting an initial patent.Intellectual Property & Business Development:Patent Portfolio Management: Supervised new patent applications and maintenance, reallocating resources from non-revenue-generating patents to those with greater potential. Introduced a system for prioritizing patents based on scientific and business value.Regulatory Compliance: Ensured compliance with federal grant regulations and the Bayh-Dole Act, maintaining company eligibility for federally funded patents.

Managed and administered daily laboratory tasks to a small team of associates. Designed and performed experiments related to Alzheimer’s disease, migraine, and traumatic brain injury utilizing several biochemical and cell culture assays. • Independently developed an innovative research project which analyzed T-cells from pre-symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease patients (confirmed through CSF chemistry) and showed significant changes in their mitochondrial energy production compared to healthy controls and late-stage disease. I was invited to present these unique findings in an oral presentation at the USC Finch Alzheimer’s Symposium.• Reduced project cost and improved data collection accuracy by finding the CLARITY technique and incorporating it as an alternative method to immunohistochemistry staining. Learned the mechanics of commercial CLARITY instruments and built an in-house version from scratch on a budget of ~$400 and saved ~4 months of work cutting and analyzing tissue slides. • Discovered previously unnoticed data trends by using innovative analytical methodologies to reanalyze old data sets examining MMP9 as a potential biomarker for brain injury. Findings presented at Experimental Biology conference.
