In 2021 I transitioned to a unique hybrid role with responsibilities as Product Owner of the SmarTest8 product for a key customer and as a hands-on Lead Engineer focused on new feature implementation, product performance, R&D, and maintenance in collaboration with teams in California, Singapore, Taiwan, and Germany. My client-facing product responsibilities include eliciting requirements, negotiating features with internal R&D, collaborating with client and internal leadership on long-term planning and roadmaps, and user training. Hands-on work includes implementing/verifying new SmarTest 8 features into customer test programs (in Java, YourKit, Matryoshka), providing feedback to R&D on product usability and performance, and developing custom solutions to solve novel problems. I have also served as the Technical Lead for the bring-up and early implementation of LinkScale USB at a second large customer.Development has included work in Python, Rust, C, and C++.

Greater San Diego Area

In this role I contributed to full lifecycle product development of Advantest’s LinkScale USB product from initial prototype stages in 2017 through its release in 2021, and leveraged LinkScale USB at prototype, alpha, beta, and final product versions to architect and implement customer applications.As a customer-facing Technical Lead for LinkScale USB, I designed, implemented, and validated prototypes and mature product versions with Advantest’s largest customers and internal R&D teams. Technical tools included Jira, svn/git, Red Hat/Ubuntu, perf, Java, C, C++, Rust, Ruby, shell scripts, SQLite, LeCroy USB3/4 Analyzer, spectrum analyzers, scopes, Lauterbach Trace32, etc.Other project work included introducing ARMv9 and other ARMv8 feature support to OpenOCD.

While in this role I implemented concurrency and execution features in SmarTest 8, developed tests, and provided application support to customers.

I joined Advantest upon their acquisition of Verigy. In my initial role with the company, I supported computer chip testing at key clients (e.g. Qualcomm, Broadcom, nVidia, et al.) using Advantest’s 93k system and SmarTest software, with hands-on work using C, C++, Java, Bash, Ruby, Python, and Perl for both legacy software and greenfield projects. I was a Tech Lead for a distributed team spread across California, Japan, Singapore, and Germany.My contributions included feature implementations, debugging, optimizations, SmarTest training and presentations, and administration of a pool of RHEL 5 & 7 workstations and VMs. A project highlight was co-architecting and implementing large SmarTest 7 and 8 test method libraries in C++ and Java with a focus on concurrency and multithreading that remain in widespread use today.

While with Verigy prior to their acquisition, I was part of an R&D team in the Mixed Signal department developinh software and supporting field engineers. Work focused on C, C++, and Ruby, in addition to documentation and customer support.
