Working primarily within the Neuropsychology outpatient department I receive referrals from Neurology and Neurorehabilitation and offer specialist assessment, advice and therapeutic intervention to adults with a range of neurological conditions, including acquired brain injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, epilepsy, dementias and degenerative conditions, and functional neurological conditions including non-epileptic attack disorder. I also undertake inpatient screening assessments and brief interventions on the Neurology ward, as well as complex case management.I supervise psychology colleagues and after consultation to specialist nurses and other MDT members. I have a role in service development e.g. the addition of a new group based therapeutic intervention for non-epileptic attack disorder, developing new referral criteria, introducing a risk assessment protocol, and piloting changes to service structure. I am also involved in delivering joint clinics with the Neurologists and developing pathways to assist in the diagnosis of complex cognitive cases.

My role was the delivery of specialist neuropsychology assessment, therapy, advice and intervention for those with an acquired brain injury and their families, professionals, carers and other agencies utilising a range of neuropsychological assessment tools and approaches. I had a specialized role in the assessment of the impact of cognition upon driving, Mental Capacity Act assessments, and vocational rehabilitation alongside my Occupational Therapy colleagues.

Here I received training in a range of psychological approaches and difficulties with a range of patients across the lifespan and ability range. I successfully completed placements with teams such as Warrington Acquired Brain Injury Service, Hull Memory Clinic, and Hull Children and Adolescent Health Psychology which enabled me to develop skills in working with those with acquired brain injury, dementia and other progressive neurological conditions. I also completed a doctoral thesis concerning professional quality of life amongst mental health professionals and a systematic literature review of interventions for burnout amongst healthcare professionals.

This role involved the coordination of applications for review by NHS Research Ethics, presenting updates at committee meetings and operating the National Central Allocation phone system.
